Dr. Lincoln Nelson began his paramedical studies at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, and continued his graduate work at the Medical College of the State of New York in Buffalo. He subsequently served with the United States Navy, during which time he was the medical officer at the Naval Hospital, Sangley Point, Cavite, Philippines from 1949 to 1950. The Nelson’s served as medical missionaries in the Southern Philippines from 1952 to 1987, establishing the Bethel Baptist Hospital in Malaybalay City Bukidnon and helping to open other mission hospitals in the Philippines. Dr. Nelson was inducted as Fellow of the Philippine College of Surgeons in 1974.
Apart from serving Bethel Baptist Hospital, the Nelsons also served the other ABWE mission hospitals in the Philippines such as Leyte Baptist Clinic & Hospital in Hilongos Leyte, Aklan Baptist Hospital in Caticlan, Aklan and Palawan Baptist Hospital in Roxas, Palawan.
Linc is the author of “With Christ in the Family”, a book dealing with the Christian Family, and the innumerable problems that attack the home, and the “With Scalpel and the Sword” that chronicled the history of Bethel Baptist Hospital. His passing last March 15, 2012 at the family home in Battle Creek Michigan was mourned not only by his family but throughout the Philippines by the many who’s physical and spiritual well being was improved by the man known simply as Dr. Linc.

Born on March 27, 1927 in Suay, Himamaylan, Negros Occidental. He grew up also in his hometown and took his secondary education and Pre-medical studies at Silliman University, Dumaguete City. While a student, he became water safety instructor.Then he proceeded to Manila for his Medical Education and finished at the University of Santo Tomas in 1958. During his internship, he was one of the top ten outstanding interns.
After passing the Medical Licensure exams, he worked as a private practitioner in his hometown, serving his people selflessly until he was called of the Lord to serve him full time as missionary doctor at Bethel Baptist Clinic.He was appointed as first Filipino Medical Director of Bethel Baptist Clinic in 1966. He married Diana Barcelona, BBH Head Nurse, in February 1968. They were blessed with a sweet and lovely girl, Dawn.
In 1968 a sigmoidoscopy revealed a mass in the lower colon which turned out to be cancerous. He underwent several surgeries to address this problem. But he eventually went home to be with his Creator on July 1972 at the age of 45.
Dr. Florencio Flores Jr. finished his medical degree at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Medical Center in Manila where he graduated in 1974. He then took his internship at the Provincial Hospital in Cagayan de Oro City. He joined the family of Bethel Baptist Hospital on February 2, 1976 where he served as a Resident Physician for 11 years, then became the 3rd Medical Director from 1979 until 1987.
At present, he is serving as the congressman of the 2nd District of Bukidnon.
Dr. Ruth Palermo-Asuncion started her ministry at Bethel Baptist Hospital in December 10, 1980, when she joined Dr. Florencio T. Flores, Jr. as resident Physician.
Dr. Ruth obtained her degree of Doctor of Medicine from Cebu Institute of Medicine in Cebu City in 1978. She took up residency training in Internal Medicine in Chong Hua Hospital, also in Cebu City. But this was cut short when she was accepted at the Philippine General Hospital, Manila for residency training in family medicine. However, the Lord’s call upon her life to medical missions proved stronger than the desire for residency training in family medicine, thus she joined the Bethel Baptist Hospital family and became the first female Medical Director.
She is married to Daniel Asuncion, a pastor from Malaybalay City Bukidnon in April 1986. They now have two children, Dov Gabriel and Rahel Dvorah.
